I don't know but common sense says... yes! what if someone trips and hurts themselves?

if you want to know for sure ask your local authority.. and I suspect you will be told off, ordered to remove it and repair any damage.
You can't put a bolt in the road without damaging the surface. Therefore you've committed an offence under the Criminal Damage Act 1971.

Further if the bolt protrudes from the surface of the road, and continues to remain in place, it's treated in the same way as any other 'obstruction' on the road (e.g.a skip), which means that you must place cones and lights around it at night.

I assume (hope) you dont actually mean the public road??? No one would be stupid enough to put a bolt into the public road, would they? Tell me you mean your driveway, please......
At the end of your driveway or if you have a terraced house then outside your front door, the land
does not belong to you , it is classed as the highway and is adopted by the local authority. You cannot place a bolt into the pavement as it's not your land. If anyone falls over this then the council will not entertain a claim and will instead tell the claimant to persue yourself for any compensation, they will also take out the bolt, reinstate it with tarmac/concrete and bill you for their time and materials.
I cannot believe that someone would simply go and drill a hold in the pavement so you must mean your driveway surely?
God I'm glad you're not my neighbour.

You've got a trailer full of crap parked outside your house (previous post) and now you've put a bolt in the road to chain your bike to!!
Is this outside the house where you live with your mother or the flat with the falling-down walls where you live with your partner?
Question Author
my mother lives on her own house with her boyfriend,
i live in a rent'd house with my partner, and yes the wall is falling down.
yes,i can live in a rent'd house & go abroad on my holidays.
NO,my mother doesn't own the house.
im sorry if what i put down on this site but i am new to using a computer.
Ianglyn....Take no notice mate.....As regards your bike. I reckon the only thing you could try would be to CONCRETE IN (on your own property) a hardened steel bolt out of sight of the road and hope for the best !! The other way would be to leave it in a friends garage !
