I went to see the in laws first thing this morning. They've just had their front garden block paved and it's big enough for 4 cars. I was told off for parking on it because "it cost a lot of money so we don't want cars on it."

maybe just bikes
They'd better get it covered over then.

They won't want birds pooing on it.
Heh- the foibles of the elderly!

They all have "quirky" ways dont they? My own gran used to put a tea towel on her kitchen work surfaces to stop them getting dirty! I couldn't get through to her that it was easier to clean the surfaces, than it was to wash the tea towels out.
hope they have planning permission....council getting hot on 'car parks' in gardens.
Mine used to keep a cloth on their best dining table so that it wouldn't fade or get marked.

I reckon, if it's covered when you use it, and covered when you don't use it as well, it doesn't matter what it looks like. There's no point in having a nice table at all if it's permanently covered up.
My mum has plenty of these including is charity week just today then, ringing me on my landline and asking if I'm at home and telling you not to stand on the bathmat when you get out of the shower in case you get it wet :)

They also have plastic covers on the arms of their suite, crocheted rectangles on the back of their suite, and shoes have to be removed outside the house.

I've told my kids if I ever get like that they should take me to the bottom of the garden and shoot me.
My son complains of having to remove shoes when visiting his mates homes......when he told them to do same in his home they remonstrate?
oooooo antimacassars! my great aunt had those on the back of her suite too.

I have to admit, (I'm only 35 (no need for comments on the 'only')) and I too like people to take their shoes off in the house - not so much on the wodden floors but in the sitting room where we have a cream carpet. (especially when you consider that the babies are playing on the floor, so I don't want anything that's been walked in to get on their hands)
Having said that - some people don't really like removing their shoes so I don't get stroppy and throw a rod, I just sit there glaring at their shoes until they leave again!! :p

I'd be tempted to place a few toy cars on the drive - just to see their reaction. :)

I have cream carpets in my house and don't want shoes on them.
Unlike my inlaws I let visitors in the kitchen door or the front hall before they have to take their shoes off.
The inlaws make visitors stand outside in the rain/snow/etc to take shoes off.
OOh that's a bit Hyacinth Bucket!!

Lore, you've got it in one!
does last night count, i rang my bro and no answer so left a message on his voicemail saying ring your sister, he then rang me back and told me off for not saying who it was on the the voicemail, he only has one fooking sister!!!!
I don't want any outdoor muck in my apartment, so I like visitors to take all their clothes off (except when it's my parents ... yuck).
ooh I'm the complete opposite - I hate feet so I'd rather people left their shoes on, but when we had new carpets every one just assumed thay had to remove their shoes! How do I tell my MIL (who doesn't wear socks) to put her shoes ON politely?!

So your poor grandparents have to strip off as well jj?

Mcfluff.....men never cease to amaze me
Got a sat nav last week. The mrs asked what do you do if you have'nt got the post code.

I said you type in the address.
She said " what if you dont know the address"

I replied, what the heck are you going there for.
Mrs_O ... the grandies are all dead.

When my post said they "used to" to something, I meant they used to do it when they were alive ... not that they have stopped doing it.

Although they have stopped doing it, obviously.
i couldnt care less about my table or my carpet or my driveway...lifes too short
You're right, joko.

You can come round to my place and keep your clothes on.
