im not with my daughters father anymore and im getting married to someone else sometime next year obviously i will be taking his surname and my daughter wants his surname too but the trouble is that she has her fathers surname will i need his signature on some form to change it or can i just let him know about it and change it after we are married

it depends if you and your chillds partner were married if so he is still legal guardian and you would need his consent. you would slo have to apply given your child is registered with her current name by birthcert.

You don't have to take your husband's surname, you know. It's not obligatory to change your name.

thank you ethel that really helped she is only 7 and by the link you have put we were together for 5 yrs but we weren't even living together so it looks like he doesnt have much say in the mater so before the time comes ill let him know what is happening xx
