Are water meters read and billed accordingly?

My water bill is more now than in pevious years when I had 6 people in the house. Now there are only 2 of us and no plant watering this wet summer either.

I'd make sure all the taps are turned off and no water is being used, then go and look at the meter to make sure that it has stopped. You never know, you might just have a faulty meter.
i pay more for the standing charge and sewerage charge than i do for the actual water ive used. its disgusting
You could read the meter and see if the reading is consistent with the bill.

Charges have been on the increase
Try this
Main the mains(outside) where you tutn on/off the water
see if there is any leakage
i have had the same problem i rang the water board and they said that the meter is only read twice a year and they estimate yor bill iqueried the amount that was charged and they reduced my bill by 30 a month
