errrr, the element inside gets hot, then so does the water.... is this a trick question?
Usually quite well.
If you pass enough current through a wire, it gets hot, simply put, the element in a kettle is a thick wire.
Err, by plugging in it maybe!
no its not a trick question...just needed help or some work am doin...thanks...and i no how 2 plug it in silly haha
What I'm wondering is not how it gets hot but how it knows when the water is boiling so it can turn off again. Does anyone know?

There i a sensor inside it which tells the kettle to turn off
