Hi. Iam not sure if this forum applies to this problem or not but apologies if this is not the case.
In 1988 my mother died and the executor of the will dealt with all her affairs except for one item. In 2004 my father died having the same executor of his will as my mother. I was unable to trace this executor and satisfied the probate that I had taken all reasonable steps to find him, and was granted power of administration ( or whatever it is called) of my dad's estate. However, this one account of my mother's remains unsorted and the bank (in Jersey) said I must seek legal advice as to how to proceed. What must I do to get at this account? All advice welcomed.

I think what you need to do is go back to the Probate Office with your mother's will and ask them to replace the executor on that as well.

They will probably grant you power of administration (Letters of Administration with will annexed is the official term I think) , which the Jersey bank will accept and release the funds

Thanks dzug.
Although Im loathe to say a solicitor is
probably the best way forward, I assume
one was involved in the actual will ?
Best of luck
