Hi!

I was wondering if you could clear something up for me. This might sound completely bizarre, but I've heard that carrying your passport around in public is illegal, and therefore not a legal form of ID. I don't think this is true, but please clarify this for me.

Thanks.

I thought you were not encouraged to carry it around in case it got stolen.

AS far as I know the passport is on List A - used to prove identity. [Your paper Birth cert apparently ISNT - something to do with, there is no computer footprint for that]
This is nonsense. I think someone is winding you up.
Definitely nonsense ! In fact , when you are required to prove your identity it is likely that the bank etc will demand a sight of your passport. One reason for that is that it shows your citizenship of the UK or whatever country issued it. It's better for that purpose than any driving licence.
At Jobcentre Plus, an original Birth Certificate is accepted as proof of ID. In this case however, the word "Original" means it has been issued within six months of the birth.
To work for pizzahut they have required a photocopy of your passport if you haave 1.for last 6 years at least theyve asked this.if youre in an eu country other than uk youre expected to have your passport on you .its the only accepted form of id as uk doesnt have id cards.
