Potential problem getting into the police force?
Hello!
Does anyone know much on trying to get a job within the police ?
I'm trying to find out whether my brother in law will have a problem trying to get ino the police force when he applies. He was arrested around four years ago for being drunk and disorderly with a few friends. He was told he was being cautioned and that was that.
He knows that on the form he is required to fill in whether he has ever been formally cautioned and also his addresses for the past five years.
He moved to his current address almost three years ago and he was told by his current employer that when they had done his CRB check it had come up with a caution at his previous address, but that his surname was wrong (completely different but started with the same initial) and that his occupation at the time was also wrong. Does this make any sense? Does it still stand as his caution?
How will a caution affect his chances of getting in otherwise?
Any advice would be much appreciated as he so wants to get in. Thanks you in advance c~s

According to Home Office policy guidelines................
Drunk and Disorderly - no more than one offence and only after 2 years have elapsed following a caution
or 3 years have elapsed following a bindover/conviction.
So the caution would not automatically bar him,but he MUST declare the caution as a CRB check will reveal it.

If he was cautined at the time, he would have to sign to accept it, so he should know.
All forces are different and they are a lot less strict than they used to be. If it is a force with recruitment difficuties or they take in a lot of recruits they are more likely to take him, however small rural forces may look at it less favourably. So the Met, GMP probably yes,,Cumbria etc probably no
