Hello,

My mum doesn't approve of my boyfriend and is scared he is going to hurt me. I've been with him for 18 months, and everyone knows he would never do anything to hurt me. If anything, it'd be me hurting him! She's told me she is going to go to the police to get an injunction against him to stop him seeing me... can she do this legally? I want to see him, and have no intention to stop, but I need to know if the injunction would go ahead? Can anyone shed some light for me pls?

Cheers!

Your mother cannot obtain an injunction through the police. The police deal with criminal matters, an injunction is a civil matter.
To apply through thecivil courts for an injunction will cost your mother about 3000.00 for the necessary two hearings but unless she has firm evidence she is unlikely to succeed.
That does not mean that you should ignore her opinion of your boyfriend - our mothers are our best friends and she no doubt has very good reason to be worried about your safety.
How old are you?

And no, she can't unless you are a minor and having sex.

I am 20. My mum has never liked any of the guys I've dated. And they have all been pretty decent blokes!
Time for you to think about flying the nest, I think.

I think I am going to move out as she has been trying to control who I can and cannot see what job I do etc for past couple of years and I'm really gettin fed up of it now!!
You are over 18 you can do what you like, there is no "injunction" possible. Your mum knows that but is hoping it'll scare you into letting her have her own way.
