How do I know if a mortgage is outstanding?

My mother has recently died and, despite searching her property for paperwork, I can't find anything relating to her house. As there are no payments being made to a mortgage company from her bank accounts, I'm fairly sure there is no mortgage on her property, but I need to find out for sure.

Could someone advise where I can find this out? Thanks in advance.
