I'm 36 and I've worked in offices for the past 12 years and really want to become a make up artist. Do i have to do a 2 year course? How does it work?

Thanks

Go to the learn direct website and on there you can search for any career, it explains what the job entails, expected salary, benefits and hours, what qualifications you need, and they also give you useful links to associations, awarding bodies, etc.
Give it a try as I am sure this will give you all the info you need to make a change.
Good Luck.
not sure, but my local college does hair and beauty courses - check yours out, may even be free!

also, how about approaching each make up counter at your local boots/john lewis/any department store and ask if they are hiring.
my friend went in for a 4 hour trial, she had to get people to have free makeovers and buy products, she did great and got the job! it may not be a proper make up artist job, but you'll get valuable experience
