When he says lockdown should happen within 24 hrs. Boris hinted yday that lockdowns may occur anyway - so why delay the inevitable?

Incidentally I've been against lockdowns up until this point. The risk to the economy is insurmountable.. but... unless people (en masse) began using their own common sense Im not sure what else can be done.

we are already in tier 4, where else is there to go with this
Are some areas still in T3?
Tier 4 has all the restrictions that the previous 2 "lockdowns" had (as far as I can recall). What's next?
I like kier but he wants lockdown for England but also wants schools open where possible. So am not sure things would be any diffrent?
tier 5, but can't see what they can be that tier 4 doesn't have
Question Author
Emmie - compared to other countries tier 4 is very mild.
What's happening in other countries Eve?
Question Author
Emmie if (??) tier 5 was introduced it might include things that other countries have done - eg strict curfews, limitation of amount of time allowed outside your own property to exercise, compulsory masks, prohibition of alcohol and tobacco sales, (I'm not saying any / all of these work - but just reminding folk that tier 4 could be much stricter compared to some places).
other countries are suffering too, what do you think they are doing that we are not
I'm in Tier 3. The only difference I'm aware of is all shops are currently open.
eve with the best will in the world many people are ignoring the laws we have now, let alone tier 5. if that came into play
Hes being clever because he knows infections and patients and deaths are growing and will continue so he can say afterwards 'told you so'
He should of gone further and say close all schools for a few weeks and stop supermarkets selling non food items
Question Author
All beaches / public open spaces closed.
our supermarket only sells food items, the coffee shops are open, but much else like nail bar and hairdressers are closed.
public space where people can go and get some exercise like the local park, i thought one was fairly safe outside, its enclosed space that seems to be the problem

I agree with you.

And whilst I don't agree with everything that some other countries are doing/ have done (why stop tobacco sales for eg??!!) but somehow we (in uk) have to try curb this spread.

As I said earlier - up until recently (last few days) ive been very sceptical of lockdown as well as Covid itself but to me it seems things have escalated now
Keir says it.
Boris laughs at it.
48 hours later Boris does it.

Repeat with monotonous regularity.
Question Author
Lockdowns wouldn't even be needed if the majority used common sense - but alas.....

yeah cos my thoughts are its gonna head to total lockdown anyway - so why is Boris wasting time?

I don't pretend to have all (or any!!) answers to this crisis but something isn't working
What I don't understand is that over the last week the new case figures in the UK have been over 55k yet in the rest of Europe the figures are fluctuating between 10 and 20k. Have they yet to be hit by the spread of the new variant?
