Kitchen Installation

I had a kitchen installed 4 years ago and everything was fine. However my fridge has just stopped working and I find that it should never have been installed next to the cooker. This is written in bold in the installation instructions which obviously have been ignored. I am now stuck with nowhere to site my fridge (when I get a replacement) as it is pointless making the same mistake again. Have I got any comeback? Any help much appreciated.

No expert, but I suspect it would depend on the contract. Who defined the layout ? Did they accept responsibility for design issues ?

Fridges work harder when next to heat sources, but they should still work.
Our fridge is next to the oven, ever since we moved into this house 20 years ago, it was also was a professionally designed kitchen and we have had no problems and have only replaced the fridge once.
I suspect the hot weather has more to do with your fridge packing up than siting it next to the cooker. Cookers are only in use for short spells at a time whereas the hot weather has been unrelenting.

Thanks Old Geezer. There is little paperwork and no contract as such. The installer designed it. The fridge manufacturer states in bold that the fridge should never be sited next to a heat source and information on the Internet seems to reinforce this. I'm not happy about getting another fridge and it only lasting four years and increasing my electricity bill which I understand is also what will be happening :(

Oh just seen all these answers - thanks all! I feel perhaps I'm making too much fuss about this?
After 4 years of use without problems , I don't see you have any justification for a complaint. We also have the fridge next to the cooker ( as does almost everyone I know) never had a problem since we got the fridge 8 years ago. As said, the cooker is only on an hour or less most days. I agree with bhg , more likely to be the current very hot weather than anything to do with being next to the cooker.(we are getting very near to breaking the record for the hottest ever day in Europe!) Is there some free space behind the fridge so that the hot coils that dispel the heat from inside the fridge can get cool?
Lack of enough space to let the fridge coils cool can be a problem.

Thanks EDDIES1. I have accepted that the problem is probably due to the excessive hot weather but am not totally comfortable with it. I have no idea if there is any space behind the fridge as it is completely enclosed by the worktop. I suppose my main complaint is that the instruction booklet quite clearly says that the fridge should not be sited next to a heat source and if this is the case the warranty is void.
