Does anyone know if the people featured in shows such as Can't Pay, We'll Take it Away have to give their permission to be filmed in their own homes and that filming be broadcast on tv?

I can't understand why they give it, to be honest. For example, an elderly optician reacted very badly to the bailiffs chasing a business debt as did that ex-footballer and his wife.
perhaps they get a fee ? can't imagine why half the Jeremy Kyle lot go on and allow themselves to be exposed by the country either..

I don't understand why people go on the JK show, either. They don't get a fee (it would affect their benefits) but they get travel, hotel, food, booze and expenses. Wild horses wouldn't drag me on, and the audience is just as bad.

When the business is still trading there is no advantage to the 'client' to accept a fee and appear on CPWTIA as it has to be detrimental to their business
Hc....have a look at Bailiff Help Forum......it seems they will broadcast without your permission....x

It's not right, really, is it?
I stand corrected Gness xx
I've wondered if permission was needed but having an hour to noodle around here your question made me google for an answer......(Bailiff TV Permission) and it took me to the site where I found the answer....

No, it's not right.......I have no sympathy with folk who deliberately won't pay their way.......but we can all hit a low patch out of the blue and to be shown on TV at a bad time in life is fairly abusive.....x
Strtange how 90% of them seem to find the money when really pushed though isn't it?
Shame they couldn't have made the same efforts and not let it go to court. It would have saved the injured party all the heartache.

They're not all debtors. Some are being evicted through no fault of their own, no rent arrears and model tenants but the landlord wants the property back

permission under the relevant act ( data protection ) is one sided. That one side knows that they are being photographed is sufficient.

but we really know this from CCTV
notices saying it goes on are advertised but not
"we will stop if you say" as in fact your consent is not required

I wonder about going onto their property but the bailiffs have a right to go and ask ( not enter) ( xc commerical property )

we forced the local MD of a hospital make a declaration to the Information Commissioners Office ( say it occurred and sorry it wouldnt happen again ) after we showed he was taping doctors phone calls...( he was a third party note not one of the speakers) What about confidentiality ? or lack of it - well the GMC wasnt interested
// Shame they couldn't have made the same efforts and not let it go to court.//

it is a lot of "wont pay wont pay...."

Rent arrears of £600 had ballooned to £2092
before muh-darm decided that "wont pay wont pay" er wouldnt pay off and she had better settle. Every £100 she pays to the sheriffs I get around £30.
