I am 23, I went to a local garage to refuel my car. While at the counter I asker for a scratch card, to which he asked for ID which I didn't have on me at that time. I was told you look 16 so I can't sell one to you if you can't confirm your age. I replied you have to be 17 to drive! But he still refused but allowed me to pay for my fuel, it wasn't until later I realised he can't sell me fuel if he didn't believe my age. Is this correct and if so should and how would I report this?

forget it and move on.
Why bother, unless revenge is your motive.

What loss have you suffered - indeed you appear to be one tank of fuel ahead on the deal so far.
Not true. You can fill up your car and pay at the petrol pump with no interaction between buyer and seller at all.

If the seller had to check your age to sell you fuel you would have to go in to the sale point and show id before you could fuel up.

"Petrol must not be sold to a person under 16. It is also an offence for a person under 16, to sell petrol and a person under 18 must not be left in charge of a petrol station."

By the by, some people can legally drive a car at 16.
The garage was inconsistent, I cannot see what is worthy of reporting.
The usual minimum age for driving cars is 17, but if you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, you can drive at 16.

And you can drive motorbikes at 16.
Fair point well made, ummmm.
Rejoice that at the ripe old age of 23 you still look 16, and that you were saved money on a stupid scratch card :-)

///indeed you appear to be one tank of fuel ahead on the deal so far.///

Er, no, it was paid for

\\\But he still refused but *allowed me to pay* for my fuel///
Perhaps you should feel lucky that he didn't call the police if you don't look old enough to drive and you don't carry any proof that you are.
My oldest children 23 and 19 get asked for ID all the time. If you look young carry ID with you....simple.

I was refused alcohol because my daughter was with me and didn't have ID on her.

The point I was getting at in this post is to know whether I should do something, I do carry id it was in my car but a scratch card wasn't worth it. I am not upset by any of the proceedings purely wanted some insight. But thank you for your comments
Put your ID in your purse when you leave the car?
No..it will be a complete waste of time.

What do you want the outcome to be?
Put simply Ellen , as in all things 'The management have the right to refuse'.

Should you do anything? No.
Did you get the fuel for nothing then, Ellen?
She paid, read the OP.
Did you pay by card if so you have to be 18 to have a card - if you were carrying your drivers licence your DOB is on there.
Thanks Mamyalynne- I was going off Dogsbody's post
The OP is not questioning the seller's right to refuse to sell her a scratchcard without ID.

She is asking about the seller selling her petrol when she apparently looked underage.

We've established that you can buy petrol at a younger age than you can buy a scratchcard, so no problem with the seller.
