yesterday i was stopped in traffick in belfast trying to get home for 4 hours through belfast with my 5 year old daughter, it was 12pm and we had been on the go since 8am. anyway a cop told me i could not go through a certain way , i told him i lived in that neigbourhood, he told me i must go back onto motorway and drive a further 5 miles to try get to my neighbourhood, i told him if he just lets me through then my home is only 1 mile away . he said no . so i go away but in my rear view mirror i see police letting other cars in through this road, i uturn and drive up and try go through . the original cop runs up yelling stop stop , he first tells me i disobeyed and order and he is issuing me with 3 points, then after some confrontation he informs me that he is sending report for me to go to court, why ? because in his words i disobeyed an order violating road traffic instructions, i told him he did not order me, he advised me and told me i could not get through, he did not order me . i committed no traffic offence like speeding or anything, what will now happen ? im going to fight this all the way, if others could get through then why not me, meanwhile my daughter was crying thinking police were going to take me to jail , meanwhile the smug *** just stands laughing seeing my young daughter crying in hysterics. i hate some of them !!!! if it were me and a dad and kid were in car i would let them through as i explained i needed to get my child home as she had been out with me all day and needed to get home to her mum at an arranged time, plus she was hungry.

Not sure if the same law applies in NI but in England and Wales failure to comply with the directions of a police constable directing traffic is an offence which carries a maximum fine of £1,000 and three penalty points.
It's likely that the drivers who were allowed through were only going on a short distance.
He could have been advising you for your own (and daughter's) safety, - armed maniac on the loose, bomb scare etc. and had been told not to say what it was.
He may have only been doing his gig.
What are going to fight? You tried to defy the directions of a police officer.

What will happen now? They have your registration so they have the means to take things further.....you have notified DVLA NI of your new adders haven't you, if not be prepared for further possible trouble.

You wanted to travel a mile which is a not inconsiderable distance and may have brought you into the midst of an untoward situation.

You have no idea what vehicles where permitted through or where they were going nor why.

Fight this all you like but dealing with your persecution complex might be a better fight to pick in this instance.

there was no bomb scare ( read the post ) they were lettting other cars through who lived in the area, i looked in my rear view mirror when i seen them letting many cars through , i turned and went to go through ( no road block read the post ) a single cop standing on road beside vehicle, i asked him can i go through he said ok only the first pig sorry cop ran up and started screaming stop stop which i did. i asked him why let others up that road , he replied they live in this area, i explained i live in this area a mile away and also my family dad lives in this area only half mile away and i wanted to go see him too. so why am i being treated different from the others because some a**hole didnt like the look of me ?
In my experience, police don't stand around at midnight refusing entry to a given area for no reason, - they would much prefer to be in the comfort of the station filling in forms -. There must have been some reason, I suggest you try to find out first what that was before you go any further.
Though I agree it is strange that one said yes and the other no.
May I also suggest that if you do follow this up, you don't use the language you used here to describe the policeman and policemen- won't help you any!

boo
if i had the cop from yesterday in the right place i would beat him untill he was unrecognisable . no apology here.

any man who makes a 5 year old child cry and thinks its funny is an absolute animal.
What did he do to make her cry?
Your temper won't help you in this instance DD if you wish to pursue it.

you may be thinking your justified in your anger but the law wont take that into account, you'll find that they'll close ranks against you if you go in foaming like a rabid dog.
You were probably responsible for making your child cry by your reaction to the Policeman. If he made her cry then report him!
I've gone through a number of different scenarios in my mind and the only one that seems likely is this.....

You drive up to the roadblock and get told to take an alternative route.

Your drive off but see in you rear view mirror other cars being allowed through.

You take exception to this and start ranting in the car causing your child to become agitated.

By the time your return to the roadblock you have worked yourself into a state and argue the toss with the policeman.

Meanwhile your child is becoming increasingly agitated and fretful.

You could have very easily mitigated all of this by simply following the directions to begin with.

The policemen may not have acted in the most professional way but there is a little part of me that wonders if you too aggravated the situation.
The other vehicles could have been unmarked police cars. Sounds like you spent more time arguing than it would have taken you to drive the 5 miles in the first place because that's what I presume you ended up doing. I don't think you'll hear any more about it.
There is no point arguing with a policeman; he holds all the cards. The only sensible option is to swallow your pride and grovel.
Most people join the police force for the right reasons but there are a few who join for the power it gives them. Perhaps you came across one of those and your attitude towards him made his day.

he was the one upset my child runnning up like a lunatic and shouting and screaming stop stop, get out of car etc , you would of thought i had killed someone for god sake. then had the cheek to laugh when i asked him was he happy to have my child in such a state. he is being reported to the police ombudsman .

naomi, the other vehicles were citizens of the same area i live in. i wish people would read the posts.

bhg481, you hit the nail on the head, a fat spoilt mammys boy in a uniform, yes i have came across many many such scumbags within the police force in my time. and im not saying for once all police are same infact the vast majority are very very decent people ive even became good friends with police officers in the past after being nicked by them in my early years.
Think of it from the Policeman's point of view -you refused to stop when ordered -you could have been anyone -you could have been a suicide car bomber, you could have had a semi-automatic weapon you were about to discharge. He gave you a command to stop, you refused,he commanded you to get out of your vehicle . He was following procedures and you are totally in the wrong here, if you had done what you were told none of the rest would have happened.
That's obviously your right to do so DD, and I wish you luck. All I was doing was recommending you didn't/don't get emotional in it and chose your words carefully and definitely don't give your personal view of the policeman and the police in general as you did here.
diesildick so you can recognize every neighbour you have within a mile of your own house? Incredible......
