being served for a previous crime? From the link:

>> Samad Uddin is already currently serving a 32-month sentence for possession with intent to supply and money laundering, which he was jailed for in January. The judge told him the GBH sentence would run concurrently.

What is the point of a sentence that is served concurrently? Saving money ?

No, they should not have concurrent sentencing full stop. Ridiculous notion.
Quite rare, but I agree with TTT, concurrent is pointless.
someone pass the smelling salts!

Not a notion though is it, it's a fact.

And they're not even linked db! You're right, it is a legal BOGOF. My ghast is flabbered! This cannot be right and it makes me wonder how often it happens.

Daisy, I wonder too, so wrong if it is.

Do you know that it is quite rare Canary because I hope you're right.
Quite rare when it is often reported in the papers?
I have always been baffled by concurrent sentencing. It's almost like letting the offender off in my opinion. I know they still have the conviction, but they have not really been punished for their crimes.

I honestly didn't realise that the judge could do what he has done here, i.e. run the current sentence concurrently with a previous one for a different crime. Wish NJ was about.
US student was kicked and punched 40 times in 30 seconds by London thugs three days after he arrived in Britain because he 'wasn't local

I see the perpetrators of this nasty crime have all got traditional East end names !.

Ridiculous, it should be added on to the end of the sentence not included in the time already served.

It's like if you buy a house, you don't get a car for free because you already spent money for something else.

Thanks for your reply Frizzy and welcome to AB.
I see tacking time to be served onto a previous conviction for a completely different crime as a travesty of justice. Shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.
you could try asking the same question in law and see if anyone knows. It strikes me as unusual but there may be a reason.
