Just had a BBC News Alert on the iPhone saying that the Army in Thailand are imposing martial law amid political crisis 'to keep law and order'.
Wasn't aware of any crisis. Will such an imposition be countrywide, affecting tourism etc?

I often wonder if humans have evolved since caveman time. There are people living in such misery all over the planet. As my ten year old niece said - they should at least try to get on.

Politics! Maybe one day I will actually understand all the ins and outs of politics but I doubt it.

Are you a nurse? Or are technicians different? The woman who sometimes checks my Lithium serum levels is a 'healthcare assistant' - she said that she was a nurse of sorts.

No, I'm all technical i.e. positioning patients, sorting out the TV's, diathermy and laparoscopy machines etc, as well as providing the muscle when required(counter traction for bone manipulations and the like).
Sounds more fun. I don't have the patience to do a job like nursing nor the brains to be a vet or doctor.

Maybe once daylight returns the usual suspects will be along to 'discuss' world affairs.

There has been advice to UK tourists for some time about problems in some areas with protestors and terrorism, particularly close to the border with Malaysia. The advice has been updated today following the imposition of martial law.

The political crisis on Thailand has been going on for weeks and was even headline news for a while. On World news channels anyway
The army periodically steps in to remove corrupt officials, either at the behest of the king or the judges who have decided that the corrupt PM (the sister of the previous corrupt PM) ought to toddle off.

Thailand has a problem with the working classes being numerous and voting in characters like Shinawatra - the middle classes, backed by the king and the army don't like this as he and his sister were quite corrupt.

Yet, the middle classes have a problem of compassion - there isn't a centre-ground candidate which tries to talk to the poor and the middle-classes, bridging the gap and retaining order.

Every time someone who speaks to the poor, like Shinawatra (who basically bribed them), is ousted their supporters are (rightly I suppose) a bit miffed and like to cause a bit of a roadblock.

It'll sort itself out shortly, as it always does.
(to answer your actual question, that is the F wot is going on in Thailand)
Yeah a wolkie says - as a nurse, you arent barred from Thai as you could probably shoot your way out...

a/c Beeb 0901, months of political unrest.

everyone [ that would be full blooded Englishmen rather than namby pa,by pinko wet liberasl ] is doubtlessly wondering if the imposition affects the numerous massage parlours, or whether customers will be forced to fire blanks.....

the uncertainly continues
Wolf, they are trying to get on, but at their neighbour's expense.
