He guys, I would massively appreciate some help with this issue. Over the past 3 months both myself and a friend have launched a music promotions company called "Back 2 Bass!cs Ltd". We have already put on a couple of local parties in the Surrey area and have trademarked our company name and logo, as well as successfully registering with Companies House.

It has been brought to my attention yesterday that there is also another promotions company doing something similar to ourselves that have been in operation for over 20 years, called "Back to Basics". Are we in any way open to being sued or forced into closure based on the similarities?

Somebody once tried to run a shop called, 'Arrods'. Mr Al Fayed wasn't amused and it ended in court.
It could be said your trading on their good name.

Hi Methyl, fortunately that is our company so no worries there :-) Really appreciate the response from both of you
In my humble opinion a company trading for 20 years and you guys come along using almost the same name does send out the wrong message ,Check with Companies House see what they advise ,just be aware the next time you answer the front door, to a couple of tough looking guys, shaven heads cheap shiny suits ,wearing the customary dark sunglasses at night ,please do not think that they are asking to be sponsored for an ass kicking contest, because it might be yours,Best to take legal advice before you go thought the expense of advertising ,promotion etc.

Good luck to you both
Please post what happens

I'm not too fussed about getting my head kicked in over a company name, I'm sure that if they were to have a major issue with it then it would be done in a slightly more professional and legal manner. I'm not bothered about ruffling feathers if people just have a personal issue with the fact that it's a similar name (although trademarked and spelt differently) however I was more trying to find out what the actual legal stance is surrounding the situation.

oh and "In a Mo" that wasn't in any way to be dismissive of your answer and I do appreciate the feedback. I do agree with you completely that we need to be respectful in this situation as they have been trading for an awful long time.
