husbands personal property

My marriage broke down over 3 years ago, and my husband left our home with only a suitcase of clothes and a few personal bits. There is no contact between us, and I have no idea where he is. Divorce is difficult because of this. Also he has left behind a valuable collection of books that he collected from when he was a child.. Can I assume the are now legally my property to dispose of as I see fit ........... , thankyou to anyone that can help me on these issues.....
