My Boyfriend Gbh

My boyfriend recently had a fight and hit someone over head with a wine bottle. The fight was because of a incident that happend the night before. My boyfriend got arrested with gbh section 18. It is his first affence and he also has 2 kids on outside. What is his likely sentence? The man walked away from the injuries. My boyfriend also didn't take the bottle with him he picked it up at the scene which can be see on cctv. Could the charge be dropped to just gbh?
