/// Sir Paul said he wanted his officers to look like ‘traditional British bobbies’ – complete with white shirts.///

Excuse me Sir Paul isn't that a Blue shirt you are wearing, or is it my monitor?

On a more serious note, does it make one iota of difference what colour shirt they wear?

A 'Bobbie' will always look un-friendly to some, even if they wear a Caribbean type of shirt.

I'd be worried if they wore black shirts....eg signs of Edward Mosley and his lot.

That's the whole point.

/// Critics have likened them to the black uniforms worn by followers of fascist Sir Oswald Mosley in the 1930s, who were known as the Blackshirts.///

His name was Oswald not Edward.

doesnt really matter to me either. as long as they look respectable, which they already do. why change it? does he think it will make a crime drop or something hahaha
Haven't these idiots go anything better or more pressing to worry about?
^^^ no they havent lol
I don't think it is the collar of the shirt, but the style.
They are going from the collar and tie, with tunic to a paramilitary top that is altogether different to the traditional uniform.
I think it looks more practical, but does make them look more alarming and unapproachable.
Black is more slimming, so I would support any move to the colour.

I saw two pictures, side by side in the Daily Mail earlier today, and the police officer in the black shirt definitely looked more attractive.

Am I missing something here? So, what specifically might the comparison be between our gallant Police Forces and shirts of the same colour(nothing more) worn by a Facist organisation in the 1930s?

Mosley and his mob of thugs certainly did not "catch on" any more than some of the equally vicious left wing hooligans who opposed and fought with them on the streets of Britain at that time.

Yet another Daily Mail piece of mischief to try and twist Sir Paul's objections which are merely based on all Forces dressing in a uniform manner. His references to the para military look would surely have more of a modern day ring to it anyway, rather than comparison with a band of ne'er-do-wells from 70 odd years ago.

IRA, anyone?
so was your Daily Mail link also a "piece of mischief", eyethenkyew?

I have no idea, ma'am.
:o)
The Police want to put off members of the public approaching them and talking to them. It is no longer a service.
The Police are hamstrung by edicts and targets from "on high", i.e. their political masters at the Home Office. That is the real reason why they are unable, not unwilling, to carry out their duties as Joe Public would like.
Our police have gone from blue to white then black in about 5yrs and they say they are short of money ,no wonder
