I have tried phoning the prison to ask about what kind of things I am allowed to take in for my partner, things like money for the phone and clothes. There has been no answer from any of the numbers I have rung. I know he has to send me a pin number which I need to book a vist, he said hes sent it but i haven't recieved it, althought it has only been 3 days. How often can I visit and how many ppl can go on any one visit. Hes in Birmingham prison

I take it you've called 0121 345 2500

and from their website

"The only items visitors will be allowed to take with them to the prison on a visit are loose change to use in the drinks machine, a locker key (if a locker has been used), a house key, a car key and visitors identification. "

Why would someone want to give prisoners money? I don't think there are stores on prison compound, where would the prisoners spent money?

:) You could bake a cake and hide the drugs and weapon inside, like in the movies. LOL

Drugs, debts and protection society.
I thought the currency in prisons was tobacco and phone cards.

They are caslass but because prisoners make an absolute killing with drugs (Especially heroin) cash is still king!
It appears as though drugs rule every corner or the world.
As others have stated, cash isn't actually used within prisons. However prisoners can use money, held on their account, to buy 'luxuries' (such as packets of biscuits or tobacco) and phone cards. Some prisons only permit prisoners to use money that they've earned while in prison, but most prisoners can also use money that was in their pocket when they arrived or is later sent to top up their account.

To the best of my knowledge, no prison allows visitors to top up a prisoner's account on visiting days. You need to send a postal order to the prison (made payable simply to 'The Governor'), stating clearly which prisoner the money is intended for.

Prisoners who've not been convicted can wear their own clothes in prison, as long as they've got a sufficient quantity to meet hygiene requirements. Some category C prisons and (to the best of my knowledge) all category D prisons permit convicted prisoners to wear their own clothes (subject to having a sufficient quantity - prisoners aren't allowed to have a mixture of their own clothing and prison clothes).

Prisons don't allow visitors to take clothing on visiting days. Clothing (together with other items, such as radios and MP3 players) must be posted to the prisoner.

oh my goodness, it all sounds so complicated...all i want is to be able to speak to him...as for drugs, no way, he dosent even smoke and is very anti-drugs. He's inside for 19 months for hitting a man and breaking his cheekbone in the process when the bloke hit me in the mouth. His first offence too. Disgusted, considering as a bloke who was driving an uninsured van ran another man down and killed him, only got 9 months...wheres the justice
You mean there's no Marks & Spencer .. or W H Smiths .. or Boots?!
hi, I have been followign your threads since the beginning of the year on this, and i'm sorry you now find yourself in this situation - i guess he feels he has done the right thing by taking most of the rap for his son, but only he will know if that was the right thing to do.
IMHO you can't compare GBH with intent to an accident where someone died i'm afraid, and i think 19 months is fairly lenient considering this is just a little away from attempted murder
