Can you get a barrister to act for you through legal aid, or does legal aid only cover solicitors fee's. If you can have a barrister, are you entitled to a barrister for a family court hearing or is it only criminal cases(magistrates/Crown court), thanks.

ayjay,
If you cannot afford a barrister your solicitor will arrange a barrister for you. Legal aid will be granted to defend your case thoughout its progress in the courts.

You can apply for legal aid for Family Proceedings, exactly as for criminal matters.
It is often more important to be legally represented here.

Ok thanks Lawman & Vesper
Your solicitor picks your barrister. if you are on legal aid through your solicitor this will also apply to your barrister. A solictor appears for you at magistrates court but cannot appear at crown so a barrister then takes over and appears at crown - if it goes there
