differnce between legal guardianship and residency

could any one help with regard to the difference between legal guardianship and residency - if any please tyrning to see which is the best way to go about keeping my grandson living with us but with the legal stuff as well, as at the moment i have to ask permission to so much as take him to the dr's your advice much appreciated

thank you ethel i have an appointment tommorrow with a family solicitor i just wanted to be prepared and have some idea before i go many thanks again
