anybody near live or work in ehser, surrey?

well i am looking at house currently,in esher,surrey (over the internet) and it said that the back garden of the house backed onto esher common. I have never been to surrey before as im a northern lass and was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what it is. Is it a park or something?:S tar xx
