Hi all, I really need some advice 2 years ago I stupidly opend 3 catalouges in family's names, at the time my husband was violant toward me and then was posted to Afghanistan and I was on my own with a 3 month old and a 2 year old. I was so depressed and was also suffering from a compulsive disorder. I am not a Nast person I would give any one the shirt off my back. I don't even know what possessed me to do it, I didn't do it out of mall ace or with at intent to anyone I really don't know why I did it. I have never ever been in trouble with the police and my husband is an officer in the British army, well last week my mother checked her credit file and I was found out which led to her phoning the police. They had a appointment at there house tonight with the police, my mobile started ringing and it was my mum so I answered it and it was the police man, I live in Surrey now but it happened in Essex so he asked if I could come to Essex for an voluntary interview and said did I want a solicitor to which I asked well I don't know I have never been in trouble befor he then said that if I had a solicitor it would take hours and hours and I would be kept in a police cell and if I just came in I would just be caution and I would get it sorted. He said if I told the truth all would be ok if I lied I would go to prison. I am very confused as to why he wouldn't want me to have a solicitor I am glad I am getting punished for what I have done my family don't deserve the hurt and pain that I have caused and I love them more then anything I'm just confused as I was expecting to get arrested and have a solicitor? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my husband and I split two weeks ago due to his infedelity and I am on my own in Surrey with 2 very small children thank you please don't judge me I'm really not a nasty person I was I'll xx

I also doubt that this is a genuine call. It sounds more like a malicious prank. Might it be a member of your family or even your estranged husband?

Could you just take a walk down to your local police station, explain what has happened and tell them that your mum has already reported you to the police. Then ask if they think the call is genuine. If it isn't genuine, then the caller is actually commiting an offence and should be reported to the police anyway!
I am afraid this will be a genuine call from the police, will try and explain later
I wouldn't go anywhere near police station...things could escalate and get out of hand...doubt you will hear any more...but if you do ask for validation as I suggested earlier. Stop worrying your little ones need your attention...good luck xx
what's your actual question please? is it why didn't he want you to have a solicitor? If so, the explanation given was probably correct - it could take a long time for duty solicitors to come (and with 2 small children a long way away, it might be better to just accept the caution)

Order limit I did think this was a policeman as like I said I didn't recognise the voice at all, I just don't want to exulted the situation, I want to take my punishment but I don't want to make things worse for my self, and I thought that the police would want me to have legal advice if I am being cautioned? Thank u for all your advice I'm very worried as like I said my husband is in the army and overseas at the moment etc etc

Yes if I get called into Colchester police station I will be accepting what they give me but wondered if I new what time and day I was being interviewd could they not pre arrange the solicitor it wasn't a particular question just advice on the situation
Wait and see...if you do get called in and you can validate their identity ask for a duty solicitor to be arranged....but sit tight for now..
Hello Mrswjen, I will try and explain in a bit (working lol) but re-read my post timed 00:42 which may help to explain the coppers tactics.

If the copper contacts you again ask if they will confirm in writing that if you admit the offence in full then you will only get a caution, see what they say

Thank you, yes I will do as I don't want to get there and get torn apart as I said the policeman was very nice and polite on the phone and seemed to want to help me, I'm guess I'm just shocked that my mum has actually done this tho I really don't blame her at all as she knows what will happen to me, but I don't think she had any choice as she needed to file a police report to get it off her credit file
Would the police REALLY use your mums phone to call you? I wouldn't have thought so. I'm not saying they wouldn't, but I think it is unlikely.

They were at my mums at the time and my phone rang my mum said the policeman wants to take some details from you, he came on the phone and said hello I would just like some details, don't worry we will try to sort this. Do you still have the statements for the clothes (wasnt clothes it was toys) to which I said no I moved 8months ago, he then said are they the only instances it happened I said yes he said I am going to invite you in for a voluntary interview in Colchester could you get down here? I said yes when dou need me he said he would call me to arrange it, the number would come up as with held or unknowen, he would declaim who he was at the start of the call. If I lied to him I would also be charged with perverting the course of justice and not helping police with there investigation and I would certainly go to prison he said i need to tell my husband (bit strange ) as a caution could have serious concise sis i am entitled to have a solicitor but will take hours and I would have to be kept in a cell for hours so if I come by my self he can caution me and that's it. He then said he was going to try and do it a different way but he can't. He didn't say who he was tho but I guess he will next time
Question Author
He also said he wouldn't interview me on the phone as that wouldn't be fair
I am not a legal person but does sound fishy!
Question Author
Apparently according to my mum if I get a solicitor he will have no choice but to arrest me and apparently it's worked on a points system apparently murder is 10 points and fraud is 3 points and because there is 3counts then I have 9poimts so nearly as bad as murder??
Question Author
This is what my mum has just told me the police said x
^^That is arrant nonsense and finally shows that someone is 'pulling your leg' in a very nasty way.
Your mums talking rubbish....a solicitor is to advise..does not mean arrest or charge...think she is behind all this...
Question Author
When I said to her mum I need to get a solicitor she shouted and went I heard that man say to you that if you got a solicitor he would have no choice but to arrest me and then went on the points system

If the Police aren't already involved (after having been contacted by your Mum), it's because they are not interested.........and so this charade has been dreamt up to 'teach you a lesson'.
