Assumed name

I would like to assume a new name to work under as mine is to complex. What are the legal avenues I have to go down and will I be able to keep my original name?

I'm no expert on this but have read one or two things about it.

You can call yourself what you like. But when it comes to legal matters, you must use your name as it appears on your birth or marriage certificate.

Your bank account could be in your proper name, but only you and the bank would know that.

Changing you name legally by deed poll isn't that expensive I don't think, but why do that when you could just change your name yourself for everyday matters?
