fridge frosted

indesit fridge freezer - freeer is fine but the rear of the inside of the fridge is frosted with a thick layer of ice - what is at fault?

This sounds like the door seal is going, allowing warmer moist air in. That's what causes the ice - and it freezes on the element which is having to work harder to try and bring the temperature down to what the thermostat thinks it wants.
