What happens if a person dies without making a will and the only relatives are two cousins. Both would inherit equal shares but if one should die before probate had been sorted out would the surviving cousin have everything or would the deceased family have his share.

The half-share that would have gone to the deceased cousin forms part of his estate, which must then be distributed in accordance with the provisions of his/her will (or under the intestacy rules, as appropriate).
