We have had an investigation into the police in our area which now the IPCC have taken on and have told us to get a solicitor who specialises in crimes against the police, we are worried about costs and wondered how the no win no fee operates....can anyone enlighten me please.

usually no win no fee operate in the field of compensation claims, rather than criminal cases ( unless they are very high-profile)
And they will only take on cases they are sure they could win.

As bednobs has said, this only operates in the field of personal injury, where they can analyse details before deciding whether to proceed. The most reprehensible statement made by advertising solicitors is, "You keep 100% of your compensation". This has always been the case, the loser pays the winner's costs, so it is meaningless. There was a time when solicitors were forbidden by law to advertise, save for a brass plaque outside the office. High time that was brought back.
