I want to be a teacher, but I have a reprimand for shoplifting

In 2009 when I was just 17 I was arrested for shoplifting and recieved a juevinile reprimand. It was the first and only time I have done anything like that and I am so glad I was caught as I realised how pathetic, naive, dishonest and ridiculously stupid it was. When I joined college, I was the only one from my school to join my college, and so I made a bad new group of friends who influenced me. I left that group immediatly after the incident. This ordeal has had such a derogatory effect on my life, I'm constatly feeling quilty, ashamed and I hate myself.

The problem is, my life ambition is to become a teacher and I am terrified I've ruined my chances.

Now I'm 18 I know it wont show on a standard CRB check but it will on an enhanced CRB which is what is needed for teaching.

I would be so grateful for any advice anyone could give especially if you are a police officer/ someone who knows someone in my situation or who has been my situation.

Thankyou.

I'm not sure about something like that but it isn't like it's paedophilia or kidnapping which I can imagine would definately stop you form being a teacher.
by the time you are ready to become a teacher it will be a good few years ago and hopefully any emplyers will view it as a childish act and in the past.

that depends of course on what you took - if you walked out with a load of stereos after some elaborate scam then its a bit different that shoving a pen or mascara up your sleeve

just be ready to answer them if they ask about it...

In reply to joko- Yes It was a mascara, and I was fined £120 for it!
I've answered on your other thread.

Having two threads can be confusing. It may be better to close one down by asking people to visit this one instead.
i dont know if its possible but maybe you can ask them to detail the offence - explain it was theft of a mascara - because they may not believ you
It'll show up on an Enhanced CRB check, but hopefully won't disqualify you from enrolling - but only the institution providing the teaching training can tell you for certain.
BTW, what unis are you thinking of applying to? I know UCL is quite strict with high standards. people on a different, student forum are worried they won't get in there ebcause they got Bs at GCSE . . .
if i was you i would apply to do the course anyway and by the time you are qualified and have graduated it wont matter go for it and if they ask say it was a mistake you have never repeated good luck
