I got a job through the jobcentre which lasted 4 days. Won't bore you with the details but now have a problem.
I got in touch with the jobcentre and informed them I had left by mutual agreement and they have asked to see me next week to see if I am eligible for a re-claim(NI contributions paid only not jobseekers).
I have to take my P45 to the jobcentre but the place I worked at won't pay me until I give THEM my P45!
Any suggestions? TIA

You need to fill out a p46 and HMRC will forward your p45.
The reason why they won't pay you is because HMRC tells them they mustn't without sight of the P45. This ensures the employer deduct the right amount of tax. Unfortunately HMRC don't allow for the inadequencies of the JC.
The advice above will solve your problem.

I do have my P45 but which one gets it first? Would it be ok to email it to the company that have not yet paid me or do they need the original?
On your p45 it will tell you which copy is for who. Follow the instructions.
That's not what Mr. Memory means.
When you left the JC, they should have given you a P45. Presumably they were remarkably delinquent at doing that. That P45 should have been given to the employer. If the JC didn't get around to doing it before your 4 days of working, you could (and still can) ask your ex-employer for a P46 form that declares your circumstances and enables the employer to deduct tax/NI off your earnings.
When the employer pays you, it will be able to give another P45, stating what it did about tax/NI from your earnings.
You give that one back to the JC, presuming you are re-registering with them.
Buildersmate is spot on (as ever) - the P45 the JC is looking for is the one from your 4-day employment. The one you have should have been given to that employer so they could set you up on payroll, they then give you a new one to confirm that you have left - that's the one that the JC now want.

I got my P45 from the JC the day after I finished working. That is why I am raising this query.
Right. Go back to what boxtops has advised you.
The P45 from the JC is the one the employer wants. Then they will pay you - this was your original question, as I recall, though it seems an age ago now.
Having paid you, the employer will give ANOTHER P45 - with different numbers on it - made up to include the salary you've just received for working. The JC will want that one back again when you register as seeking work again.
you should then be able to do a rapid reclaim with the jobcentre, you still have the 3 waiting days but you don't have to go through the whole appointment interview stage, it happened to my son last year.

Thanks for all your replies.Oh and buildersmate, I'm a Mrs not a Mr!
As there is less than twelve weeks between the claims there will not be any Waiting Days imposed (Dot's advice with regards to benefits and emplyment law is not always correct) and you can make a rapid re-claim only if there have been no other change in circumstances other than the work done.
