Does anyone have any experience they can share regarding having elderly relatives that are now needing some support? My grandmother is in her 90s and my grandad looks after her. But he is finding it all a bit too much now. The main problem is that he is deaf and can't hear her if she needs help at night. I can't sleep in due to childcare requirements. I can't seem to find anything on the net about qualifying for a night carer, even just one or two nights a week, unless its a private arrangement at £15 per hour!! Thanks

Why dont you make a Doctors appointment on behalf of your grandparents, also you can get in touch with the local council Domiciliary Department or Age Concern. They should be able to help you. Try and get someone in authority to help you, that should be your first port of call. Good luck.

The doc comes out to see her, and we have spoken to him but he has been no help so far. He just says it has to be my grandma's decision not ours as to whether she wants a carer. We are all cream crackered!
Age Concern & Help The Aged have now merged to become Age UK, have a look at this page on their website - they will give you impartial advice. I hope this helps,

I would suggest you liase with Social Services, they can help you put a plan of care into place and provide home care.
They will also enable you too qualify for a reduced carer package for night care.
