Tools for the job

Am I correct in believing that as an employed roofer that my employer should provide adequate tools?

You mean like a chop saw and nail gun etc? well if he's employed you as a roofer he must assume you have your own tools, employed roofers are a rare breed i would say, most are sub-contracted

in the motortrade employees have to supply ALL there own tools , a skilled tech can have £15,000 + worth.
