Not to sure where to put this so here will do!

Anyway, I got rudely awoken at 2.50 this morning by an alarm going off outside.
I wasn't sure if it was someone's house alarm but it definitely wasn't a car alarm.
I tried tossing and turning to get back to sleep but the alarm kept going on and on.
Eventually at 3.20 I got up and called the police about it. I didn't call 999 just our local 24 hour helpline thing and said they said they'd check it out.
Well 20 minutes later no sign of the alarm stopping or any sign of the police so I get up again and hunt through my drawers until I found some earplugs.
Thankfully these done the trick and I feel back to sleep until my own alarm clock went off at 6.30am.

However, the alarm outside was still going off!

Surely the other people living in the street and nearby area would have heard it so why didn't they do anything about it and why didn't the police turn up and if they did why didn't they do anything about it?

Sorry for my rant, I just wanted to get it off my chest!

Thanks

Something tells me that your itching to start some sort of neighborhood watch/vigilante group so that you can teach those litterdroppers, kids playing football in a non football zone and people talking in loud voices a lesson.

Seriously, your worried about a little alarm? Where im from screeching car brakes, police helicopters, gun shots, peolpe screaming and emergency services sirens are the norm! In the morning we just cheerily step over the used bullet casings and corpses and head off to work!
I know just how you feel - I live in the West End and it happens a lot even though they are supposed to cut off (by law I think) after 20 minutes.. I have seen 2 instances where people have climbed up the front of the shops and walloped the alarm with a hammer until it stopped - I put a letter through the door of one of the shops one day explaining why someone had this and advised they need to get it sorted if they did not want it to happen again... It's really no joke - and no the police never come..so its pointless really...
As a tip, don't just report that the alarm has gone off and is annoying you, if you tell them you think you saw somebody, or moving shadows outside the house, they will treat it as a robbery in progress and attend much more quickly than if they think it is just a nuicance alarm.
We had this happen on a regular basis for some time. The alarm was going off in a hall nearby that was used by disabled people and old aged pensioners. The only way we managed to get something done about it was to find out who owned the hall and explain that our sleep was being disturbed on a regular basis. After some considerable time the owners of the hall called in the Alarm company who realised there was a fault on it and remedied it - peace perfect peace at last! I don't know what the legal situation would be but don't think it would warrant immediate police intervention but this sort of thing can really drag you down on a regular basis. The police can find out who owns the premises and ask them to do something about a continual problem that disturbs the peace.
Thats a great idea annie, but could'nt that get an innocent person that has gone to investigate shot? which would lead to an investigation, which would lead to the fact that eash lied to the police which would lead to his/her arrest and then a jail sentence, which would lead to eash never being able to get his/her life back on track which would lead to deppression which would lead to eash abusing drink and drugs to "escape" reality and the fact that eash has got innocent blood on his/her hands which would eventually lead to eash overdosing, dying in an accident whilst intoxicated, dying from liver damage due to the excessive liver damage or from suicide?

lol @ hailthechimp! (For your info I am a she :-))

Thanks for all your answers, this is the second time it has happened in as many weeks. What concerns me is the fact it doesn't seem to concern anyone else!
Cheers lady eash. A lot of folk in this day and age have got that "if it dont concern me then i dont care" mentality because a lot of people seem frightened of the implications of getting involved,so instead just bury their heads in the sand and pretend the "incident" never happened.
chimp, maybe eash could use her semi automatic rifle to shoot the alarm off the wall and save all that heartache.
LOL! I like the way you think annie!
