lying about qualifications

I have no gcse's & due to this, i am unsuitable for most goodpaying jobs, i am pretty much educated to gcse level but did not take the exams. If i was to lie about this, how many employers actually look this up? Thanks in advance.

It's a gamble, 'cos if you're found out lying you will be in deep trouble and could be dismissed. I have known many people lie about their qualifications; one former boss awarded himself a degree by adding 'BA' after his name (mind, he did time for fraud not long after). But I would not recommend it, both because it can come back onto you and also because lies make baby jesus cry. Why not do a couple of GCSEs on a part time basis - give yourself a year to pull in a few exams.

Hi-I deal with people like you who-let's be honest-probably regret not bothering at school. Employers DO check up and you certainly can't get a modern apprentiship without those certificates. I would suggest that if you are interested in the trades-electrician, builder, carpinter, plasterer etc that you enroll in a college and get your Keys Skills level 2. Then you will be sorted. Any further Q's please ask.

right first things first. exams are not worth the paper they are written on in my opinion. Having bits of paper with letters wrote on does not mean common sence. I left school with pretty poor grades and am now in a good paid job. So it can be done!

Of course and well-done for managing it, but not by lying to try and get on the first run. It is likely that you would be found out.

Probably not many would check on gcse exam results to be honest, I certainly wouldnt bother. Having said that, if they did check you very probably wouldnt get the job or could be dismissed if you were found out.

Twenty and Justasking - the last job I got (five yrs ago) I had to bring to the interview every buddy certificate in my life including my wedding cert. I am well over the hill. This is what I mean about lies creeping up and biting you on the bum.

I do agree that honesty is normally the best policy, without wanting to come across as too judgemental, it is not very fair that by lying about your qualifications, it means that you could get the position over someone else who may have put the hard work and effort in to pass their exams honestly.
If you do decide to go down this route because you feel you have no other choice, why don't you start to take the extra qualifications anyway. If you get found out by your
employer, then at least you can show them that you were trying to do something to try to rectify the situation and it may not look as bad to them.
Finally I may be stating the obvious, but if you are successful and get a job this way, my advice would then be as to work hard and make yourself as indispensible as possible. Then there is a chance that if you get found out, they will not want to lose such a hard and reliable worker!

I don't recommend lying because if you are found out you will generally be regarded as an unthrustworthy person and you could be dismissed. If you lie, an employer might also wonder whether you steal as well, and you certainly won't be allowed anywhere near a cash till either. And how would you feel if you lied, got a job you really liked and in which you were doing well, and then got fired when your little secret was discovered. If you really want to do well in any future career maybe you just have to bite the bullet and go back to college to take the exams - or at least those specific subjects which would be important to any future career. Alternatively try looking at getting some other occupational qualifications which will stand you in good stead for a future career. If you know which kind of career appeals to you, this wll help you narrow your options when deciding what qualifications you should try and gain.

Hi, I work for an airline and yes they do check up on your qualifications. I recruit for them and despite the fact that I would personally go on life experience, they insist on Grade C or above in GCSE/O Grade for Maths and English for Cabin Crew despite the fact that some people have lots and lots of good experience.

They fail to realise as a company that this does not weed out the people who join and are pretty usless at their jobs.

i work for a training co and can say that if you have qualifications under nvq2 and are 25+
or are under 25 you can get free work observational nvq level 2 thanks to the government.
so this means no essays but you get watched serving a customer for example and you get marked on it - simple huh. i may be able to help you if you are near hampshire, isle of wight or dorset but if not speak to your local adult education.
if your 25 + funding is train to gain if 24 or under apprenticeship.
