I got in touch with the people I was applying for the job and explained the situation mentioning that after 20 odd years was it necessary, they told me not to worry and just put down the exams i knew i had passed.

got the job!
This site may be of help if it's an English or Welsh Examination board.

after 28 years i should think that your experience and skills acquired in that time should be enough,

depends on the job i suppose but there are plenty of numpties out there with bundles of exam passes who dont have the aptitude to tie their own laces

exams are an indicator only and unless the job was specifically technical relatively unimportant

tell them i said so!
