Does anyone else get wound up by people who keep taking sneaky smoking breaks during the working day ? By my calculations, they must total up to least a couple of working days a year ! I think it should get taken off their holiday allowance ! What does everyone else think ?

Yes it's very annoying when anyone takes breaks that they're not entitled to.

I'm a smoker but have always made up the time for my breaks wherever I have worked, as was required by my employer, and I would have done anyway.

So I do agree with you - I just don't get a) why people don't make up their time, and b) why their employers don't make them?

But don't even get me started on skivers who have loads of time off 'sick' when you know they're not ill - they're the ones that really annoy me!
I agree Emu, then they have the cheek to take holidays at the end of the year as well when they've had about 2 months off "sick" during the year

Emu2005 - have no probs with conscientious folk like yourself who make up the time. But for those who come in on the dot of 8.30am, leave as soon as the minute hand shows 5.00pm, and take their full hour lunch break, I just think are taking the pi$$ ! Oh, and totally with you on the skivers !
At our place, they make smokers take their breaks as flexi time.
so you're saying that if you are contracted to work from 8.30 to 5.pm and take a full hour lunch break which you are entitled to (in some places of work) then you take the p!ss? why do you think that? if thats all your getting paid for why do any more? have you no life outside of work?
What about the other folk who should be working instead of being on AB all day...?

;o)
also shouldnt it be down to the bosses or managers to have a word with the people who take these "sneaky smoking breaks" and not the whinger who sits in the corner of the office watching everyones move. No offence meant but its not your problem! get a grip.

darlingnc - What's with the attitude?

I really hate people like you coming on here and taking any opportunity they can to take personal shots at people they don't know.

I was talking about people who sneak off taking ADDITIONAL breaks above and beyond what they are entitled to. These type of folk tend to wait until the managers aren't there (meetings etc), so as not to be noticed.

LOL ! Pippa68 - was jumping on the defensive after darlingnc negative waves !
I have 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon BUT the woman i work with has lipstick applying breaks, hair brushing breaks, nail filing breaks.....
I never take the pi$$ out it but others just stand n chat all bloomin day which is worse than any smoker I know
i used to work at a place where the majority of people were smokers ans often wnet for carfty breaks and the manager was also a smoker so you couldnt really complain
It must get on your nerves when people keep sciving off for whatever reason - but there are many more who sit there playing on their computers in the firm's time. I know someone who literally spends most of the morning emailing her friends. That to me is worse than nipping out a few times a day to have a crafty ciggie.
v.true ice.maiden, the smokers always get the blame
i think its much more obvious when you go for a cigarette break as you actually have to leave the building... what about those who seem to take half an hour to make a cup of tea or those who are having a chat but trying to look like its work related?! grrrrr lol
