I've been a bit stupid!

Basically, i went for a job interview and I was asked about a temporary job I held about 4 years ago. On my CV I was quite vague and simply put the date down as 'Spring 03' even though i was only in the position for about one month. When i was quizzed at interview about how long I was in the job for i said 3 months (as I stupidly thought it would sound better - i realise this was foolish) but they then asked exactly who my manager was in that company. I am really worried that the interviewer will contact this person and then find out that i exaggerated the dates on my CV. In the grand scheme of things, how bad is this? I am 99% sure I now have no chance of getting the job in question!

why not just write to/phone/email the interviewer and say you've double checked your records and found you were in the job for less time than you'd remembered, and would like to set the record straight?

if they check the dates..... it may look a bit unreliable on your part... the other company might bjust say .. oh yes u as there for three months.... its a bit of a grey area
Depends on the job you are applying for but i don't think too many employers will check references on atemp job you have over 4 years ago.
If you consider that you have a 99% chance of not getting the job then it's no problem what so ever.

As others have said I very much doubt they would check and if you haven't specified it as a reference then I doub tthey would even get a response from the company.
