what if i dont give notice?

thanks, thanks, and thanks to all who answered! but! would anyone then know what would happen if i were to recieve my 'bonus' and then leave without notice, i am planning to move overseas sooner rather than later, and i have delayed my plans which have had to be put on hold as the bonus was deferred, as above, to the new 'signing' date. I am sort of at a point where the whole family is waiting for me. thanks

Would effect your reference I would have thought.
Loads of people simply walk out of their jobs every day, without any regard for notice periods. In the vast majority of cases, employers do nothing about it, other than immediately ceasing to pay the employee and refusing to provide a reference.

However, because those (ex-)employees are in breach of their contracts, their (former) employers could sue them for any losses sustained by their company through their unauthorised absence. For example, if a senior employee walked out and the company lost a multi-million pound contract because of it, the employer could sue for full compensation. Similarly, if an employer has to pay other staff overtime rates or engage expensive agency staff, because an employee has walked out, the employer can sue for compensation.

You would be in Breach of Contract and they could withold any outstanding holiday pay if they wished to offset the notice. As reverandfunk said, be careful if may ever need a reference from them. It would be better to speak to them and ask them if you could leave without notice, you would have nothing to lose. I am an HR professional too.
