Earlier this year I relocated to Oxfordshire, I moved for the benefit of my son who is attending college - never thought for one moment that I would have such a problem in gaining suitable employment. Opportunities for an MD (a position I have held for the past 6 years) are few and far between (if at all).

I keep being told that I am over experienced or the job isnt big enough for me and I know this to be the case but I just want to work - I have a personal plan and it involves earning money!

I have been given some very positive feedback and told many times that I should be working for myself - are there any sites or networks where one can find business partners?

No offence but if you have run your own company successfully why are you asking for advice on here?

Hi Passionately.

Why dont you set up your own business? What sort of line are you in...is it the sort of thing that you need a business partner for?

Your local Bank manager is likely to be part of a business networking group so perhaps they could recommend you to a group.

In the meantime if you just need an income I would suggest dropping the MD title from your CV or at least say that you want a career change as this would certainly put me off if I was interviewing you, it gives the impression that you are indeed to big for the role and may leave as soon as something better comes along! Could you not change your title to Manager just so you can get a foot in the door?

Best of Luck

No offence taken Reverandfunk! I'm asking advice on here because I've relocated from the South West to the South East and I have not been here long enough to create a network where I can get advice and support.

If I had 6 months of capital to support me in setting up a business - that's exactly what I would do - however, I'm currently asset rich and cash poor and so either a job or a business partner is the answer.

I think you are absolutely right about changing the title of my job from MD to General Manager - I will adapt my CV accordingly and see if this makes a difference.

~Thanks so much for your response.
Keep a look out in the Oxford Mail on a Tuesday, Oxford Times on a friday www.dailyinfo.co.uk for local jobs.
