supermarket security

My daughter works for a well known supermarket on nights [24 hr opening] they do not have any security night men working at their store ,is this legal bearing in mind that they have alcoholics trying to buy alcohol and getting very abusive when they cannot [licence hrs] drug addicts high on drugs and of course the usual people trying to steal items, there is a duty manager on duty sometimes but he his seldom on the shop floor.By the way this supermarket does not have a union.I feel very uneasy when my daughter goes to work bearing in mind the crazy people that are about today.Can anybody give me any info as to what these unprotected till women can do.

I don't think there's a legal requirement to provide specialist security staff in supermarkets, even at night, although the manager should receive security training as part of his general training. In reality, of course, it makes sense for such places to provide security cover, even if that's only a patrol van around the car park every twenty minutes.

There is nothing to stop your daughter and her colleagues joining a trade union if they wish. There's more about that here:
