Music A level as an "Academic" subject

Hey, i heard that some uni's were not accepting A level music as an academic subject when applying for courses, anyone know if theres any truth in this?

cambridge have a list of what they call less suitable subjects (you'll need to scroll down the page) however, it will depend on your other subjects ie if you had art, music, performing and media studies that would be a no no

It ranks along side religious studies as a complete waste of time!

I don't know if any uni has imposed a blanket ban on music A level, but you need to look at the requirements for the course that you may want to study. It may also depend on your general spread of A Levels- if you had maths, history and music then it would probably be fine, if you had media studies, film studies and music then it could be regarded as a less traditionally academic combination and some (very oversubscribed) unis may not accept it.
