just go round to all th shops/cafes in your area and ask them if they are employing anyone at the moment... they will ususlly give you an application form
Excellent answer from bednobs. Many years ago my younger daughter 'disappeared' for the day only to come back and tell us that she was starting as a waitress at the local hotel. She was only 14!! By 18 she was managing the restaurant in a plush hotel in Perthshire - go for it and good luck.
isnt it nice to see a 14 year old who wants a job. i know a few that as long as mum and dad pays an allowance they wont even bother considering a small job !! GOOD ON YOU RONA !!
erm, does anyone realise that you can not work until you are 16, when you receive your N.I. number?
Sorry spaced, that is not true.
Bit of copy and paste that may assist:

What kinds of work can be done by 14 year olds?

The Children and Young Persons Act (1933) sets 14 as the minimum age at which children may be employed, and gives the following restrictions:

No child shall do any work other than light work. Light work in this case is defined as tasks and working conditions which would not be harmful to the safety, health or development of children, and would not compromise their education.

A 14 year old may not work for more than five hours on a Saturday or any other day (other than a Sunday) during the holidays. On a Sunday a 14 year old may only work 2 hours.

On a school day, a 14 year old may not work: during school hours; before 7.00am or after 7.00pm; for more than 2 hours a day; or for more than 12 hours in any school week.
In the holidays a 14 year old may not work for more than 25 hours in any week, or for more than four hours in any day without a rest break of one hour.

A child must have at least two consecutive non-school weeks a year without work.

In addition to this, children are not allowed to work in the following areas:

Street trading (though some local authorities do allow children of 14 to be employed by their parents in street trading)
Performing abroad (without a specific licence from a justice of the peace)
Scrap metal sales
Betting shops
Petrol Stations
House to house charitable collections

Also, although children between the ages of 14 and 16 may be employed in industry (subject to the restrictions on hours), employers have to keep a register of all employees under 16 and their dates of birth.

The National Minimum Wage does not apply to workers under 16, and there is no protection in English law regarding wage rates for those under the age of eighteen

Rona, im also 14, and I am really wanting a job at the moment. Will you let me know what sort of jobs you go for, so that i have an idea of what I could do.
Hiya rona16

I'm 14 too!! and I had a paper round for a year and got really sick ov it, so started to look for a saturday job, it took nearly 6 months to find one but i finally did, in a cafe/bakery. i got it by ringing round my local shops, over and over again, finally a job came free. So dont give up even if you can't be bothered any more, still try! x
Hey i'm 14, and i've tried out dog walking, car washing and paper rounds - they make you underpaid and over worked, but the other two are fine. Im going into town this week to find a job in a shop, because my freinds sister got loads of aplication forms in town.

My advise is to go for cafes, hotels etc. you can get good tips on op of your wage. but if that isnt your thing and you want to work in a shop dont bother with chains as they normally wont allow U16's or U18's in their, go for little and indipendant shops...

good luck ;)
Hey Rona,
I just got a job today. Im also 14 and been looking for one for only a week or so. Seems I got lucky. People told me dont try factories cause its 16+ but cause im a pain in the bum I didnt listen and tried around anyway, I found one that did take 14+ filled in my application and got the job. So if cafe and shops dont quiet work out for you, dont hesitate to try some factorys, you never know could get lucky. x

Wow a lot of people like me. 14, needing job. i definantly need a job since I've got 30 left in my bank :P. I like the idea of getting a job in a Restaurant /cafe or a hotel. Godo money and different positions. I might go downtown and look for some job applications. Thanks ;)
I'm also 14, I worked for my grandad a bit at a carpentry & on site fittings, got 50 for like 4 hours which is good, but I'm looking for something permanent rather than whenever there's a place. I've been playing a free online radio station & am a big computer geek, so I'm really just trying to buy things for my radio station (thanks to www.shoutcast.com) & a pro gaming computer lol. I might be getting training from pc world soon, which is awesome because jobs in it usually pay well lol. anyway, just thought I'd say, keep practising what your good at & try to keep some time for what you enjoy, i might set up a donate feature for my station & start making websites & script for things =D.
anyways just thought I'd tell you all my lame story : )
wishing all of you good luck =D
