I thought about this when lying in bed last night gazing out of the window.
When bricklayers do the windows of a house, how do they do the course of bricks above the window opening? There is nothing for the bricks to lie on is there? Is it a magic trick?
Couldn't resist this, Tilly. It's not every day that you get bricklaying in Chatterbank :o)
Actually, if the bricks were up on end, you don't need a lintel at all. They just stay there.
It's called a "soldier arch" then. Now you can bore your friends with that piece of trivia ;o)
