Hi can anyone out there who can help me with my question how long do you have to wait before the council can move our family into a 3 bed house, as social housing seems to take for ever. Our two eldest children girl aged 12 and boy aged 11 and our youngest daughter aged 10 have to share one room and we live in a 2 bed room flat. the two eldest will be going through puberty soon and the youngest is growing up fast behind them. Our son still has to share my room with me and my husband and he is now 11 how long can he live like this, bless him.. has anyone got any advice other than citizens advice on how to get some more help with this situation as I have tried everything possible..

Does your council tell you where you are on the waiting list? Hopefully some of those (if any) occupying a property with more bedrooms than they need will be pressing for a smaller property to avoid the so-called bedroom tax/spare room HB subsidy (I use both terms so we don't get into a debate about the'bedroom tax' issue)
it's probablr that your landlord, assuming it is community housing, is part of Homeswapper , you can advertise for a swap yourself as long as your landlord uses that service and approves your site membership.
just google Homeswapper.co.uk
unfortunately there is not a lot of social housing available so you could be in for a long wait, have you considered renting privately? its actually probably the best option you have other than swapping. most people end up renting privately because they have been waiting for so long.

Hi there to factor fiction, I have been on council register and was told i was number 18 on the list for the Croylease Scheme and now I am not hearing nothing more about where I am now on the list, when I contact them the person in question is never around to take my calls, do you think I need a good solicitor to help me with my problem or do i have to contact the council again what do you think?
Problem is, Shaz, they can't give you what they haven't got.

To D J Hawkes please reply if you can, however I have tried home swappers now for the last 12 years now and have failed to get anywhere. is there anything else that I could try to make life more simpler?

to cazzz 1975 please could you reply if you can.. I would like to rent privately as our children are constantly fighting all the time over one room it is such a shame. Can the local council help me with renting privately, could you let me know many thanks
my suggestion would make life simpler and give you a choice of where you want to live
you can contact your local council about renting privately, they can give you advice, you should use www.rightmove.co.uk and gumtree to help you find suitable properties available.
if you rent privately its worth saving up a deposit as most landlords ask for one.
Homeswappers for 12 years? Bizarre, never knew it had been going that long.
I think she meant 12 months...

dj hawkes at present we do not work due to illness in the family.
no it's a website called Homeswapper. Most local authorities are members.
Your council should have a list of private landlords that will take people in receipt of HB.
