Self-employed people aren't eligible for Statutory Sick Pay but they may be eligible for Employment and Support Allowance:

many thanks,think that's the form we've got.
lol Stick with it Petal - you're entitled to whatever you receive however little it will be. Don't let the B's grind you down.
Won't get any SSP if he's self employed, needed to have taken out his own insurance policy against ill health.

I know I've a mammoth task ahead of me tomorrow with an interview at the Jobcentre as I had to resign from my job last month due to an injury, which meant blood tests which in turn revealed a debilitating illness totally unrelated to my injury, and one that'll take months to get under control. Am I fit for work ? Probably would be signed off if I was working but as I'm not, do I claim JSA (and say i can work 40 hours a week when I don't actually know if I can do that), or plough thru' the forms you talk about where (having seen them online), they'll say I don't qualify for (equivalent to) Incapacity Benefit. I know the DWP are clamping down bigtime so I don't know how these people con them out of £000s either.
