It's the first interview I've had for ages (I've been on benefits for a while, but I'm not a scrounger - I worked from being 16 years old, did 17 years at one job). I've put quite a bit of weight on, so my normal 'job interview' clothes won't fit.

The job is as a part-time assistant in a supermarket - what should I wear? I have some casual black trousers, but they have quite a few combat-style pockets - are they suitable? I'd probably wear a plain white t shirt with a white shirt with them.

Would this be ok? The supermarket have a uniform. I want to look like I do want the job, but I'm skint so can't afford to buy new clothes.

TIA

Smart trousers as opposed to combat style, a t shirt is ok if it is covered up with a smart jacket, it doesnt have to be a suit, but something smart. Just my opinion. Can you borrow something or perhaps pick something up at a charity shop?
I would think it depends on the number of pockets really HM..do you have a jacket you could wear rather than just a blouse. The very best of luck with it, I hope you get the job x
I forgot to say, good luck.
Have you got, say, a summery skirt and maybe a knitted top? Or you could wear a vest like top with a little cardie over the top of that. Smart casual is the way to go. No denim, no combats, no t-shirts with slogans, no trainers, etc.

thank you for your good luck messages x

NM - lol, that made me smile! I'm really not the sort of person who wears skirts and cardies. Last time I wore a dress was on my wedding day 18 years ago, and that was under protest! lol

But thank you for your advice :-)
No worries. I had an interview last Tuesday and I was fretting over what to wear. I went with smart trousers and a smart top.
The very best of luck. Trousers, a top, a jacket, a positive attitude (this job is MINE!) and a confident smile. Try to engage with all panel members. If there's anything you don't understand, ask to have it repeated. Have you prepared some questions for the end of the interview - for example, promotion/ full-time prospects?
