Worried for my grandson

My grandson has just finished his 3rd year of an engineering degree and has had a email from his tutor to say that he will have to resit one of his exams to get a 2:2 BEng and because of his marks so far won't be able to go for the 4th year and go for his masters.

I am so upset and needless to say so is he. He doesn't think that he has grounds for appeal but has to speak to his tutor next week.

I just feel so helpless and don't know what I can do to help him Obviously he has to do the resit and, hopefully get his degree but I am worried that this may affect his future.

It is a shame, but such is life.
A 2:2 is a perfectly acceptable degree often known as a Desmond (Tutu) or a 'drinking degree'......

If your grandson has not performed sufficiently to secure his 'masters' portion it is probably just as well he finds out now.

His tutor will be able to advise him of *all* his options both in education and out....

Best of luck to him. :o)

Thank you He's 21 but I feel just the same as when he fell ove a a toddler - soft aren't I?
At the end of our degree course we were called in to see the tutor who took it in turn to tell us of our likely result - when he got to me he said 'you're on for a 2:2 but at least you had a great time,'.

I reckon that's the truth sherrardck
granny -- a 2.2 is not that bad providing he passes his resit. So be supportive for him , chain him to the kitchen table for revision and he will be fine.

He will need to re think his career path , but he will be able to do a masters later on when he has some work experience behind him.As a part time student maybe.

He knows why he is getting a 2.2 and the reasons are not important now ,
Best of luck to him.
